July 2026 | Stop Starting Over
July 2026 Newsletter | Edition #6
A monthly newsletter on running, consistency, and self-discovery.
Welcome to Running Reframed! Here, we focus on progress over perfection, building strong habits, and connecting with yourself through running. I’m so glad you’re joining us this month.
Reflection
Last month, I encouraged you to keep a running log. To take a few moments after each run to reflect, notice patterns, and stay connected to your training in an intentional way.
So I want to start this month with a simple question.
Did you do it?
If you did, what did you notice? Did anything surprise you? If you didn’t, that is okay too. This is where the real conversation begins.
Because this month, I want to talk about the “starting over cycle” that shows up for almost every runner at some point.
We tell ourselves we’ll start Monday.
Or after vacation.
Or when life slows down.
We convince ourselves that consistency only begins at the “right time”. But the truth is, consistency is not built in perfect conditions. It's built in the middle of real life. Consistency becomes your anchor when things get busy or difficult. It's the system you create for yourself that allows you to keep moving forward, especially in seasons that feel unsteady.
It's built in the decision to keep going, even when things are not ideal.
Starting over can feel like a reset, like we are giving ourselves a fresh chance. But often, it keeps us stuck in a loop where progress never fully compounds. We never get the opportunity to see the results of our consistency because we keep resetting before momentum builds.
Instead of starting over, what if you simply continued?
One run at a time. One week at a time. One adjustment at a time.
What if, instead of missing a run and telling yourself you’ll start over again on Monday, you paused and acknowledged the reality of life? You got stuck at work. Your kids had a tough day. You chose an impromptu night out with friends. You are human and you are meant to live your life too.
Not every workout will go as planned. And that is okay. The goal is not perfection. The goal is continuity. You do not need to start over. You simply need to keep going.
It’s okay to miss a run here and there. What matters is not missing one after the next.
When you start to look at your training this way, a missed workout is no longer a reset. It becomes a moment to adjust, refocus, and continue forward with what's still available to you. That is where real growth happens.
This month, we will be exploring this idea through a 4 week series on Instagram and Facebook, focused on building consistency, breaking the start-over cycle, and learning how to stay in motion even when life feels messy.
The goal is not perfection. The goal is to keep going even when things do not look the way you expected.
Stay connected with us on Instagram and Facebook as we share each week’s theme and reflection.
If this resonates with you and you’re looking for support in building a sustainable training routine that fits your life, you can book a free 1:1 consultation with Wayfinder Running Co. We'll talk through where you are, what's been getting in the way, and what a realistic running routine could look like for you — with zero commitment on your end.
Looking Ahead
July is where consistency is tested.
Schedules shift. Travel happens. Vacations are on the calendar. Kids are home from school. Motivation comes and goes. Some weeks will feel structured and others will feel scattered.
This is exactly where the "starting over cycle" shows up.
A missed run becomes a reset. A busy week becomes a reason to pause. Before we know it, we are back at the beginning again.
But what if July is not about starting over?
What if it is about continuing, even when things are imperfect?
You do not need ideal conditions to stay consistent. You need a way to stay connected to your training even when life feels unpredictable.
That might look like shortening a run instead of skipping it. Shifting a workout instead of writing off the week altogether. Or maybe going on a walk with your kids instead of a run. Not every week will look the same but you do not need to restart each time a workout doesn't go as planned.
Your training does not reset when life gets busy. It adapts.
Coaching in Practice
This month, try something simple.
When a run does not happen as planned, pause before labeling it.
Instead of saying, "I fell off," or "I need to start over," ask yourself:
What can I still do today to stay in motion?
Maybe that's a short walk.
Maybe that's an easy run instead of a quality session.
Maybe that's simply getting back out the next day without judgment.
The goal is not perfection. The goal is continuity.
You are not starting over.
You are continuing from where you are.
